Dr. Konrad Meister (BMOL Faculty) and his BMOL Ph.D. student Rosemary Eufemio recently boarded the National Geographic Endurance, an ice-class expedition ship that travels to polar regions, to conduct research. Aboard the ship, Konrad and Rosemary collected water samples from oceanic regions (Iceland and East Greenland) containing an abundance of ice-nucleating organisms, which have distinctive freeze-tolerant properties to survive extremely cold conditions. Both Dr. Meister and Rosemary were selected as a part of the Visiting Scientist Program and the ship uniquely had a Science Hub, a space dedicated to sharing research with the passengers.
