In September, Cody Wolf (Ph.D. Candidate) was nominated to the American Association for Cancer Research (AACR) Associate Member Council for the 2023-2026 term. The main role of the council is to advocate for the needs and interests of early-career researchers, including medical and graduate students, residents, and post-doctoral fellows. This includes supporting trainees throughout their professional development journey and empowering them to pursue their diverse career aspirations.
Second, due to efforts in cancer research advocacy, Cody was selected to attend the AACR Translational Cancer Research for Basic Scientists Workshop in Cambridge Massachusetts this November. The workshop is a week long introduction to translational cancer research and provides basic research scientists with essential training to adapt their research for maximum clinical impact and transition into a new career in translational cancer medicine. This includes learning aspects of working on multidisciplinary teams and navigating regulatory and compliance issues in translational science.
Lastly, Cody also had a first author review publication in Frontiers of Immunology titled, The Clinical Relevance of OSM in Inflammatory Diseases: A Comprehensive Review. The review focuses on oncostatin M (OSM) a cytokine involved in a variety of inflammatory responses. It outlines the role OSM plays in a variety of inflammatory diseases, including cancer, and outlines previous and current strategies to developing an inhibitor to OSM signaling.
