Dr. Laxman Mainali Publishes in MDPI and Experimental Eye Research

Dr. Laxman Mainali (Faculty) recently published two papers regarding human lenses and eyes. The first paper titled: “An AFM Approach Applied in a Study of α-Crystallin Membrane Association: New Insights into Lens Hardening and Presbyopia Development” was published in MDPI – Membranes. His research investigated α-crystallin membrane associated with atomic force microscopy (AFM), and their data shows that an association of α-crystallin with the membrane deteriorates membrane elasticity. On another hand, the second paper titled: “Membrane elasticity modulated by cholesterol in model of porcine eye lens-lipid membrane” was published in Experimental Eye Research. His team focused on AFM studies of a porcine lens-lipid membrane. They found that mechanical properties of the model lens-lipid membranes are modulated by cholesterol and high cholesterol increases the membrane elasticity of a model lens-lipid membrane.
