The Alaska Department of Fish and Game is hiring four technician positions to assist with animal care at their facility in Palmer, Alaska.
These are essential support positions for assisting with animal husbandry and facility maintenance at the ADFG Foraging Ecology and Wildlife Nutritional Analysis Lab. Under the direction of a Wildlife Biologist 1 or Wildlife Biologist 2, the primary duties of this position include animal husbandry and facility maintenance.
Specific duties include fence repair and building, building animal shelters, and removing hazards (trees, metal, etc.) from animal pens, collecting and provisioning natural vegetation for captive animals, cleaning and maintaining animal facilities, collecting biological samples or data, feeding adult animals, assisting with feeding trials, and collecting behavioral observations of adult females with and without calves. As time allows, these positions also will assist with lichen collection and/or other plant sampling fieldwork.

Who We Are Looking For
- Strong attention to detail, including the ability and willingness to follow strict written or verbal protocols exactly.
- Ability and willingness to work in close proximity to large mammals under demanding conditions (e.g., getting dirty, manual labor, lifting 50 lbs, being cold and wet, late at night, during periods of severe insect harassment) while maintaining a positive attitude and ensuring work is performed accurately and completely.

Minimum Qualifications
- High school graduation or the equivalent
- Six months experience at the developmental level of fish and wildlife technician or aide. With the State of Alaska, this experience is equivalent to Fish and Wildlife Technician 2.
Or
- One year of technical laboratory and/or field experience involving fish or wildlife research, management, or habitat protection; as a commercial fisher, guide, or trapper; or a subsistence hunter or fisher.
