Biology Learning Center Tutor for Fall 2025

The Department of Biological Sciences is looking to hire 1-2 undergraduate tutors to work in the Biology Learning Center (BLC) for the Fall 2025 semester. If interested, the priority deadline for applications will close on Friday, April 11.

About

BLC tutors are peer leaders who provide drop-in academic support for
students enrolled in Biology courses. Tutors hold regularly scheduled hours within the Bronco Learning Commons located in the Albertson’s library. Tutors are supervised by the Biology Learning Center Manager and are responsible for maintaining and entering student participation information & attending staff meetings for ongoing training.

Qualifications and Requirements
  • Enthusiasm for course content and peer learning
  • Enrolled in at least 6 credits at Boise State as a degree-seeking student
  • Achievement of an A or B grade in Bio191 and Bio192 (or equivalent) OR achievement of an A or B grade in Bio227.
  • Able to communicate clearly and compassionately to all types of students
  • Experience creating an inclusive learning environment (or willingness to learn)
  • Commitment to a full semester of employment
  • Ability to speak and present information in front of a group
  • Available for mandatory weekly staff meetings (1 hr/week on Mondays at 10:30 AM) and available to tutor an additional 5 hrs/week.
  • The BLC is currently seeking someone available on Thursday afternoons though hours are not limited to Thursday only
Preferred Qualifications
  • Sophomore (or higher) academic status
  • Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher
  • Proficiency in both written and spoken English
  • Experience as a tutor or academic support position
  • Leadership experience
