Candidates for the 2023 Elections

Our ticket has four goals: parking, club funding, meal plan advancement, and outreach. Parking is not a new issue on campus. We will create a solid plan with Public Safety to combat this. Club/Organization maximums will be raised to $6,000/Club, and $600/individual. We will also work to reduce policies that keep Club sports from accessing funds. If required, meal plans need to be as student-serving as possible! We will work with Dining to expand options and availability. ASBSU’s purpose is to advocate for students, we will meet with students regularly! 

If elected, we plan to increase Involvement of student clubs/organizations by connecting them to resources to increase their impact. We want to better student government with more transparency and communication. We want to improve issues of Parking by creating parking scholarships, easier accessibility to all transportation methods, and increase lighting around campus. We want to take Action on bettering the student experience with initiatives such as a University Wide Mentorship Program, fundraising 2.5 million dollars to reinvest back into the student experience, creating a housing scholarship for Boise State students, and advocating on behalf of students to improve their experiences.

Every student has an opportunity to thrive at Boise State. We want to make sure students have the voice and resources to do so. We will simplify the bureaucratic process to allow student organizations to more effectively support their communities, increase mental health resources to help students focus on their education, and ensure full transparency so student voices are accounted for. Chey is a Civil Engineering, Environmental Studies junior and has previously served as the ASBSU Chief of Staff, Government Relations officer, and Sustainability Chair. Jason is a Business Administration, Political Science junior and an active student leader.

Upon re-election, I will foster an environment of academic excellence by assisting in improving retention rates, and increasing access to financial aid for all students. I will work to identify students who struggle whether that be financially, academically, or mentally with the intent to create more resources for them to fulfill their potential. I will advocate for student voices in University decision making. I will build up scholarship funds with the purpose of getting them endowed. I will focus on Open Educational Resources and making course marking a reality for students. I promise to consistently follow a philosophy of servant leadership.

As your Vice President of Inclusive Excellence (VPIE), I want to focus on increasing three major aspects of ASBSU: student participation, involvement, and education. As VPIE, I’ll aim at increasing student interaction by giving more incentives to participate in the activities ASBSU hosts. I would also seek for ASBSU to fund events that promote diversity across campus. I want to encourage students to understand the benefits of being involved in ASBSU through the promotion of the various positions we offer. A priority of mine will be to give students a better understanding of ASBSU, the IESC and the IESC’s purpose.

If elected, my first priority is to seek a budget increase and raise the maximum amount of direct club funding from $4,000 to $6,000. I also plan to raise the maximum amount of personal grants from $400 to $700 by requesting the allocation of excess funds from the ASBSU contingency budget. The intent is to finance more events and projects that benefit all Boise State students and emphasizes student engagement, community involvement, and academic excellence. I will, to the best of my ability, enhance club representation, reinforce comfortability in fund-requests, advocate for club concerns, and strengthen communications between student organizations and ASBSU. #GoVoteJoe

As the Vice President of Student Organization Affairs, I will emphasize the inclusion of all clubs and work to build relationships with all. I will meet with student organization leaders regularly to assess their needs, concerns, and provide guidance/support as needed. Along with that, I will manage the budget for the student organization program and ensure that the funds are allocated fairly/effectively! I plan to create evens that support these student organizations and give them opportunities to ask questions and learn more about what the Funding Board has to offer their organization!

While pursuing a mechanical engineering degree here at BSU, I’ve had the pleasure of meeting and working with many inspiring people from a myriad of different backgrounds. Many of these people are students who I work with on our NASA Micro-g Research Team. It is my belief that the outstanding opportunities afforded to equally outstanding students through student organizations like Micro-g are worth nurturing and supporting. As a newcomer to ASBSU, I aim to ensure that we do everything we can to equitably support all of the wonderful student organizations that we have here on campus.
