ASBSU Passes Bills Addressing Student Event Support, Hygiene Insecurity, and Mental Health

Boise, ID – Three important bills were passed in student government on Monday. After signing those bills, ASBSU President Isaac Celedon released the following statement.

“This week, ASBSU took action to support students in need. Bill #08, led by our Bronco Engagement Committee, funds the construction of power outlets to be available in the quad for any student organization or department that requests them. These outlets will be available to use for all students and student organizations free of charge. Clubs and organizations can expect them to be available by the fall semester, with construction set to begin in the next couple of weeks.”

“We also passed Bill #09, which continues our annual tradition of partnering with the Campus Food Pantry to support a hygiene drive. Hygiene insecurity is a serious issue that impacts many people, and often goes unaddressed because the cost of those products cannot be covered by food stamps. This bill will relieve pressure on the food pantry and provide several months of supplies for our students in need. Our aim has always been to provide additional support to decrease the costs of these expensive products for students, continuing our commitment of making Boise State more affordable.”

“Lastly, we know that mental health is an issue that affects all of us, and students consistently tell us that it’s a top concern. That’s why we passed Bill #10, which changes student ID cards. Thanks to this bill and work by the Bronco Card Department, student ID cards next year will contain essential mental health and campus safety resources for all students.”

“We will continue actively looking out for ways to help make Boise State more affordable, accessible, and meaningful for all students.”
