Calling the Boise State Community

Celebrate National Chemistry Week with our Picture-Perfect STEM Week Photo Contest! We’re looking for captivating photos that showcase STEM in action. Whether it’s a snapshot of a hands-on experiment, a behind-the-scenes look at your research, or even a detailed image on a nanoscale, we want to see the beauty and excitement of science through your lens.

Goal

Show us the world of STEM through your eyes and be a part of this exciting celebration of science during National Chemistry Week!

Theme

  • Capture the essence of STEM in action—whether it’s a close-up of a chemical reaction, a student working in a lab, or a snapshot of field research.
  • Showcase intricate details of experiments, from the initial setup to the final results, highlighting complexity of your work.
  • Explore the nanoscale world with images of microscopic or nanoscale structures, showcasing the details of materials or biological specimens.
  • Photograph innovative techniques or tools used in STEM research, such as technology, lab equipment, or unique experimental setups.
  • Highlight the collaboration in STEM by capturing team efforts, interdisciplinary projects, or partnerships between different scientific fields.

This juried exhibition is aimed at all the students, researchers/faculty at Boise State University.

How: Submit your photos through our online portal. Be sure to include a brief description of your photo, including the scientific concept or experiment it represents.

FAQs

Group entries are encouraged, especially if they involve students from different backgrounds (arts and science). If you want to be put in contact with someone to collaborate on an entry, please contact ArtSci at artsci@boisestate.edu or join the ArtSci Discord server at ArtSci@Discord or the ChemClub Discord server ChemClub@Discord. The same links should also be used for any additional inquiry or question related to the Photo Contest.

Prizes

Prizes will be offered for the first three works of each entry category with the following amounts: $100 first prize, $50 second prize, $25 third prize. A total of 6 prizes will be awarded. The budget for the prizes is provided by the Snake River Section of the American Chemical Society.

Awards Selection

A judging committee formed by faculty, students, and administrative staff at Boise State. Photos will be judged on creativity, technical quality, and how effectively they communicate a STEM concept. The best entries will be showcased at the Art Science Showcase event at the end of the Spring semester.
