The Student Micron Advising and Success Hub (previously known as the Simplot/Micron Instructional Technology Center and the Simplot-Micron Technology Center) opened in May 1986. A gift of 140,000 shares of Micron stock from various business executives — including Idaho billionaire J. R. Simplot — funded the project, valued between four and five million dollars. The 45,000 square foot building included classrooms, media production technology, and various kinds of computers and electronics. At the time of its construction, some of the major projects included were the “instructional television fixed service” and the “Idaho Rural Education Delivery System.” Both program gave rural Idahoans improved access to educational services. The building also housed KBSU for a few years starting in 1992.
