After completing my undergrad at Boise State, an unlikely career in design and photography developed, leading me to become involved in documenting the volcanological work of the Geosciences Department at BSU.
Fast forward several years – this work opened up an opportunity earlier this year to travel with Deep Carbon Observatory to Papua New Guinea. During the trip, I got to stay with a tribal community on the volcanic Manam Island, off the coast of Madang, in which the system of trade, religion, familial structure, and transmission of status absolutely astonished me on a daily basis.
The education I received in your courses came rushing back and allowed me to make observations and have interactions that I might have missed otherwise. It was a truly enriching experience and a fierce reminder of my love for the human connection offered by the field of anthropology.
Attached are a few low-res edits from the trip, I’m still working on catching up on the edits.
I just wanted to say thank you and share a story of a student having a first-hand experience with the tools you’ve taught over the years.
