Advising is very different for graduate students and undergraduate students.
Upon acceptance into the graduate program, you will be assigned an advisor who will also assist you with your thesis. This advisor presumably has interest in your area of specialty or is able to provide you resources. Graduate advisors can help you with the following:
- Class selection
- Proposal review
- Professional development opportunities
- Grant writing / funding opportunities
- Serve as a member of thesis defense committee
Advisors can be changed at any point during your program if you wish to change for any reason.
