[GRAPHIC: WHAT I WISH I WOULD HAVE KNOWN]

[Ayden, Graphic Design Major]: My name is Ayden Lindsay and I am a graphic design major, with a minor in Arts Entrepreneurship. I was kind of pushed into graphic design by my family. Not like in a bad way, at all, but just encouraged to look into it. And I remember taking my first graphic design course here because I had no idea what I was doing when I came to college, And my homework didn’t feel like homework anymore. And that was kind of when I figured out, well, maybe this is it, this is what I want to do!

[Ayden]: And the two extracurriculars that I’ve been involved in at Boise State are the Blue Thunder Marching Band and the Student Association for Graphic Arts. Both of them have just brought me this huge community of people that I feel like will be my lifelong friends and give me or, you know, grant me so many experiences and opportunities for the future. I started going to my professors for help because I felt like I was struggling in class. I wasn’t totally understanding material, and so that first time I went to ask for help, they were beyond happy to help and walk me through everything that I was struggling with. And it was a lot easier than I thought it would be, as someone who doesn’t like, you know, confronting people about those sort of things. And it was just something that I continued to do because I was gaining more and more out of it in my learning.

[Ayden]: Get to know your professors. They’re not as scary as you think they are. They are here to help you, and they are more than willing to help you through your whole journey, and you will definitely learn and grow a lot from, you know, taking advantage of them in this place. My first year I definitely felt a lack of community, per say, and it was very lonely and isolating, and that was something that I didn’t want to continue moving forward with.

[Ayden]: The biggest lesson from that experience is definitely creating a community where you can find opportunity and constantly network, because you don’t know where you’re going to find yourself after college, and having those people that you can fall back to for help and also to, you know, push yourself forward. And growth, I think, is very important to have, and that will definitely benefit me in the future. And you never know what the future is going to hold, but just keep fighting through, find those people, find that community and yeah, everything will be okay.
