Boise State University offers Admissions Application Fee Waivers for students who demonstrate financial need by meeting one of the criteria listed. Please determine what type of applicant you are to see how you can apply for an Admissions Application Fee Waiver.
Requirements
High School Students
High school students wishing to use an Admissions Application Fee Waiver must meet one of the following indicators of economic need listed. Students can indicate that they are eligible to receive an Admissions Application Fee Waiver on the application for admission. Along with selecting how they are eligible for a fee waiver, students will be required to provide contact information for an individual/organization who can verify eligibility.
The student must meet at least one of the following indicators of economic need:
Student has received or is eligible to receive an ACT or SAT testing fee waiver.
Student is enrolled in or eligible to participate in the Federal Free or Reduced Price Lunch Program (FRPL).
Student’s annual family income falls within the Income Eligibility Guidelines set by the USDA Food and Nutrition Service.
Student is enrolled in a federal, state or local program that aids students from low-income families (e.g., TRIO programs such as Upward Bound).
Student’s family receives public assistance.
Student lives in federally subsidized public housing, a foster home or is homeless.
Student is a ward of the state or an orphan.
Requesting an Application Fee Waiver
In the Admissions Application (preferred): Students who meet one of the waiver qualifications listed may request a waiver in the Admissions Application. Additional documentation is only needed upon request.
After the submission of the Admissions Application: To request a fee waiver after the submission of your application please send documentation showing how you meet one of the criteria listed to admissions@boisestate.edu.
Transfer and Adult Students
Transfer and Adult students wishing to use an Admissions Application Fee Waiver must meet one of the following indicators of economic need listed. Students can indicate that they are eligible to receive an Admissions Application Fee Waiver on the application for admission. Along with selecting how they are eligible for a fee waiver, students will be required to provide contact information for an individual/organization who can verify eligibility.
The student must meet at least one of the following indicators of economic need:
Student has applied for federal financial aid by submitting the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and has an Estimated Family Contribution (EFC) of $6,656 or less, or student’s Student Aid Index (SAI) is less or equal to zero. Student must provide a copy of his/her most recent Student Aid Report (SAR) from the US Department of Education. You can download a copy of your most recent SAR by logging into the FAFSA website at fafsa.gov.
Student and/or student’s family receives public assistance. Examples may include, but are not limited to: food stamps, unemployment benefits, housing assistance, and disability assistance. A benefits summary that includes the student’s name and dated within the last six months must be provided as supporting documentation.
Student is homeless. A confirmation from staff of an emergency shelter or transitional housing program funded by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development must be provided as supporting documentation.
Student is part of a federal TRiO program sponsored by the US Department of Education for low-income students, first generation students or disabled students. A statement from your TRiO coordinator or advisor must confirm your participation in the program and eligibility for support services.

Boise State Employees and Spouses
If you are a Boise State employee or the spouse of a Boise State employee, you are eligible to receive an application fee waiver when applying to Boise State University. Currently, the application is free for Idaho residents. However, if you are not an Idaho resident, you can indicate your eligibility for the waiver on the Payment Page of the application. Simply select the option indicating you qualify for the waiver, choose the “Employee/Spouse” option, and enter the Boise State employee’s ID when prompted. This benefit ensures that Boise State employees and their spouses can access higher education opportunities with ease.
