The Office of the Provost was thrilled to add three paintings from the Boise State University collection to the lobby area of the suite. The paintings are “Irrigation Pond” and “October in Canyon County” by artist John Taye and “Untitled” by Louis Peck, both former members of the art programs at Boise State for decades.
John Taye received a BFA at the University of Utah and an MFA at Otis Art Institute of Los Angeles County. He is a Professor Emeritus at Boise State, where he has taught a variety of drawing, painting and sculpture courses for the past 33 years.
The mood of Taye’s work is often peaceful and reflective, drawing inspiration from Dutch still life and landscape paintings, French Impressionism and other styles. Taye has shown throughout the West and the country, including exhibitions in Idaho, Utah, Arizona, Washington and Oklahoma. His artwork has also been featured in a number of publications.
Louis A. Peck, Jr., Ed.D. helped build and lead the Department of Art, Design and Visual Studies at Boise State from 1955 to 1989. He began in a small department of what was then Boise Junior College and grew the program with a dynamic group of makers, historians, and art educators.
In spring 2022, Boise State hosted an exhibition of Peck’s work titled The Art & Legacy of Louis A. Peck, Jr., which was curated by Carol Peck-Hill and James Walker.
These works reflect the landscapes and settings familiar to many Boise State students and employees. The Office of the Provost thanks University Art Curator and Collections Manager Fonda Portales for assisting in selecting and placing the paintings.
