Transfer students are placed into Boise State UF 100 and UF 200 classes based upon their academic record. Read below to learn more about placement criteria. Should you have additional questions about transfer credits, equivalencies, or UF course placement, please contact the University Foundations office.
Core Certified
If students have transferred courses from a regionally accredited college/university to Boise State, the Registrar’s Office will indicate whether the courses satisfy the requirements to meet the Idaho State Board minimum requirements for core certification.
- Students who are core certified or have an earned associate’s degree (AA/AS) will NOT be required to take any UF courses unless otherwise indicated by their specific academic programs.
- Students who have earned an applied associate’s (AAS) will have the UF 100 requirement satisfied and will be placed into UF 200.
Core Certified is noted on the unofficial transcript and the Academic Advisement Report as ZGUXFER 100XF GENERAL UNIVERSITY CORE MET.
Not Core Certified
If students have transferred courses from a regionally accredited college/university to Boise State, the Registrar’s Office will indicate whether the courses satisfy the requirements to meet the Idaho State Board minimum requirements for core certification. Students who are NOT core certified or have NOT earned an associate’s degree will be required to take both UF 100 and UF 200, unless they meet the following criteria for direct placement into UF 200 only.
UF 200 Placement
UF 200 Placement: Students who have transferred 26+ academic credit hours from another college or university AND three courses that were equated as Foundations of the Discipline (FD) courses with a C- or higher may qualify for direct placement into UF 200 (FD courses were called Disciplinary Lens (DL) courses in pre-2018 catalogs).
Of the three FD courses, two can be from the Natural, Physical, or Applied Sciences category, as long as they are from two different fields and at least one has a lab; two can be from the Social Sciences category as long as they are from two different fields; but only one course can be used from each of the Arts, Humanities, and Mathematics categories.
For proper placement, submit the “UF 200 Course Placement for Transfer Students” form to the University Foundations office.
To ensure appropriate time for review, all placement and transfer credit inquiries must be received in the University Foundations office at least ten business days prior to the start of an upcoming fall semester, or by end of fall semester finals week for an upcoming spring semester. Please refer to Boise State academic calendar for these dates.
