New Online program utilizing online fee model

Consider these questions when contemplating the creation of a new online program that will utilize the online fee model. This includes programs at all degree level (i.e, Bachelor’s Master’s PhD) as well as certificates (including graduate and undergraduate).

  1. Is the department supportive and on board with the new program?
  2. Are there other departments on campus that may be interested in partnering? If so, contact those departments to discuss.
  3. Connect with eCampus to start exploring the options.
  4. Are there funding or workload adjustments that are needed to support the new program? For example, if new courses are created, who will teach the new courses? Will adding a new program affect specialized accreditation of certain programs within the department or college?
  5. Schedule a meeting with the college Dean to discuss the proposed program. If new funding is required, the college Dean, department, and/or eCampus must commit to the funding requirements.
  6. If the proposed program is a graduate level program, schedule a meeting with the Graduate Dean to discuss.
  7. If the proposed program has the support of eCampus, the college Dean and if applicable, the Graduate Dean, schedule a meeting with the Vice Provost for Academic Planning, Dr. Zeynep Hansen.

Come prepared to the meeting with the Vice Provost ready to answer the following questions:

  • Why does the department(s) want the program?
  • Is there external demand for the proposed program? How do you know?
  • How does the proposed program fit with any strategic priorities within the department, college, or University?
  • Do you have a commitment for additional resources that may be needed to support the program from the Dean? (Additional adjunct funding, a new Lecturer line, etc.)
  • Are there similar programs in Idaho or the region?
  • Has the curriculum discussion and planning been initiated?
