The Kuali Curriculum Management (CM) course form is where you can add and update course requirements for enrollment.
Control enrollment in a course by either requiring permission/consent to enroll or by requiring criteria like a specific course or courses, major, student group, or GPA.
Permission/Consent
Some courses are better situated for controlling the enrollment by using permission or consent. Selecting permission means that you cannot also add specific course requirements. Combinations like that cannot be enforced in the enrollment system. Any criteria that is listed in addition to permission will be considered recommendations for enrollment. This will be reflected in the course description.
Prerequisites
Add Rules
Prerequisites are added to courses by using rules. The rules allow for other courses and programs to specified within the CM. This feature makes it possible to notify the departments who own those course and programs when they are being used. It also will allow for reporting to show course use across the curriculum.
Prerequisite rules
The following rules are available in the CM to use. They cover the most of the common prerequisites that are used for enrollment. The rules specified align with what is used in the enrollment management system and are what students will encounter when enrolling in the courses. A course requisite can be made up of one or more of these rule sets, i.e., a prerequisite can be both a course and a program. See the section about complex requisites for more details regarding more granularity in what is needed to enroll in some courses.
Prerequisite rules to add:
- Course or courses
- Course or courses from a list
- Academic level
- Course with a specific grade or better
- Minimum GPA

Note that it is recommended that requisites be built in the following order if one that one rule is needed: 1) admitted to program or admitted to program from list, 2) course or courses, 3) course or courses from a list, 4) course with a specific grade or better, 5) minimum GPA, 6) other requirements as free text.

Both types require the program to be selected when building the requirement.

Complex Requisites
Some requirements need to use groupings of courses or programs.
Complex rules are used when you have a group of courses to be taken in a requisite or another group of courses to be used in a requisite.
The prerequisite for the course BIOL 205 Introductory Microbiology is an example of a complex requisite. You have to use Rule Groups to be able indicate one group of courses OR another group of courses.
In order to specify one group of courses is needed or another, under the More Actions ellipse icon select Create Group.
At the highest level for Group A, the rule would be “Complete 1 of the following.” In Group A.1 specify the first course choices needed to fulfill the requirement. Add another group, Group A.2, to list the other courses that could be used.
Note: when editing a rule group, you must first ungroup the rule to delete one of them.
