  • Tomas Baiza

    Tomas Baiza

    Director

    Duties

    Direct overall AASC operations and coordinate the AASC’s collaboration with other Boise State advising and enrollment units.

    Tomas joined AASC in 2013 with professional experience in admissions, human resources, and residential learning development. His teaching experience includes coursework and teaching in history, career exploration, and graduate research methodology. Tomas received his Bachelor of Arts at San Jose State University, Masters degrees from Indiana University and the University of Michigan, and his doctorate in Education from the University of Oregon.

    Sr. Associate Director

    Duties

    Oversees academic advising and new student transition initiatives, including the coordination of advising and registration for New Student Orientation, Major Exploration and Undeclared Advising,  and Sole Associate Degree Advising. Coordinates with campus partners to enhance a shared first-year experience for all Boise State students.

    Alizabeth joined the Advising and Academic Support Center in August 2015 immediately devoting her efforts to first-year student initatives. Alizabeth earned her Master of Science in Counseling and Student Affairs from Minnesota State University Moorhead. She holds a sincere passion for fostering students’ skills and development from a holistic lens. Outside of Boise State, Alizabeth enjoys spending time with family and friends, Pure Barre, movies, reading, and dancing!

    Associate Director

    Duties

    Oversees Academic Support services, including tutoring programs, academic success workshops, and academic coaching in addition to serving as the co-chair for ACAD courses.

    Matt joined the Advising and Academic Support Center as an Academic Support Coordinator in October 2013 and oversaw the training, supervision, and assessment of AASC’s tutoring services, including the Learning Assistant Program. Matt earned both his Bachelor and Master of Science in Biology degrees from Boise State. Outside of his work supporting student success on campus, he enjoys fly-fishing and volunteer teaching entomology workshops at local learning centers and fly shops.

    Duties

    The Assistant Director of Academic Development and Recovery leads AASC’s advising services and programming initiatives for students experiencing academic challenges. The Assistant Director expands the impact of ADR’s work by developing intrusive/holistic advising practices for probation-status students and increase active collaboration with various advising and student-support units to inform early intervention initiatives to help students navigate academic challenges, support academic persistence, and student success.

    Lindsey earned her Master of Education with specialization in Higher Education Administration from Boston University.  Lindsey has worked in many facets of higher education including alumni relations and development, career and experiential education, and advising first generation students in the New York state sponsored Higher Education Opportunity Program.  She is excited to join Boise State and holds a passion and interest in supporting the success of first- generation and non-traditional students. Lindsey and her family relocated to Boise from Vermont in 2018. Outside of work she enjoys spending time with her two young children, teaching and practicing yoga, hiking, playing tennis and skiing.

    Business Operations Manager

    Duties

    Manage implementation of university-wide student success initiatives, advising process documentation and standardization, department financial management, human resource/candidate search manager, data acquisition and dissemination.

    Tim started in AASC in 2002 as a student employee and has advanced to his current position.  He is a proud Boise State alum having earned his Bachelor of Science in Health Science – Health Information Management in 2010.  In his free time, he enjoys movies, reading, testing new recipes and spending time with his husband and pets.

    student-support units to help students make earlier and more informed major program decisions.

    Chelsee earned her bachelor’s degree in Psychology and master’s in Student Affairs from Iowa State University. She served as a hall director at North Dakota State University working mainly with upperclassmen. Chelsee loves all things pop culture, especially television shows & documentaries. She enjoys doing grandma-like hobbies, such as baking, cross-stitching, reading, and crafting, and she listens to too many podcasts.

    Duties

    Hannah earned a Master of Science in Educational Leadership and Policy from Portland State University in 2024. Prior to that, she received a Bachelor of Science in Psychology with a Sociology Minor from Portland State and an Associate of Arts in Psychology from Treasure Valley Community College. Hannah has a passion for higher education and is dedicated to providing compassionate service to Boise State students. She loves being in a position that allows her to help students reach goals that align with their values and interests. In her free time, she enjoys baking, hiking, reading, spending time with loved ones, browsing antique and thrift stores, playing video games, and cuddling with her beloved chihuahua Lola.

    Duties

    Brittany joined the AASC as the Academic Programs Coordinator at the end of June 2021. She coordinates the training, supervision, and assessment of the AASC’s tutoring programs including the Learning Assistant program and drop-in tutoring services across campus.

    Brittany has a B.A. in English and Political Science from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She’s considering jumping onboard for Boise State football, but come basketball season she bleeds Carolina Blue. After graduation, she joined Teach For America and taught high school English and some random electives in Nashville, TN, for six years before becoming an instructional coach, helping teachers across content areas improve their instruction. Along the way she earned her M.Ed. in Instructional Practice from Lipscomb University. She’s passionate about making learning accessible to and engaging for all students and working with the Learning Assistant program. She also loves (and loves to talk about) running, reading, hiking, traveling, and her dog.

    Serves as Faculty Liaison for ACAD 101 concurrent enrollment program in addition to providing academic coaching, teaching ACAD 101, and supporting ACAD instructors.

    Carissa joined AASC in the summer of 2017 as Educational Specialist. She earned both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Communication as well as a graduate certificate in college teaching from Boise State. Carissa is also an adjunct faculty member for the Boise State Department of Communication.

    Jackson graduated from Boise State with a B.S. in Applied Mathematics and minors in Spanish and Computer Science in May 2024. For the last three years of his undergraduate studies, he worked in the Learning Assistant program supporting math, physics, and computer science courses. Away from school, Jackson enjoys playing video games with his friends, running, reading, and being mediocre at watersports.
