Erik Helgeson is one of the most honored football players in Boise State history. A defensive end for the Broncos from 1987 to 1990, Helgeson was named to several All-American teams throughout his career. As a sophomore in 1988, he received first team honors from the Walter Camp Foundation and the Sports Network. He again received All-American honors from the Football Gazette in 1998. As a senior in 1990, Helgeson received first team All-American honors from the Walter Camp Foundation, Associated Press, Kodak/American Football Coaches Association, the Sports Network and the Football Gazette. Helgeson also received first team All-Big Sky Conference honors three consecutive years (1988, 1989 and 1990). During his career Helgeson made 223 total tackles, with 149 unassisted. Helgeson holds the Boise State record for the most career quarterback sacks with 54.5, and also holds the career mark for most tackles for loss (which includes sacks and other tackles made behind the line of scrimmage) with 68.5. Helgeson graduated from Boise State in 1991 with a degree in Communication.
