COID 333 | Online, In-Person | 2nd 7 Weeks | 3 credits

Welcome to Emerging Technology taught by Britton Hennessy. Gain hands-on experience working with emerging technologies including, but not limited to: virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), 3D printing, internet of things (IoT), artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning (ML), and voice assistance. Use these tools to develop creative solutions and learn to apply them to a variety of projects and settings. Students will finish the course with 6 projects and 1 professional portfolio to showcase their hard work.

1Lesson 1: Intro to Emerging Technology
Get a comprehensive overview of the course and learn about the impacts technology has on society.
Project 1: Tech Review
Create a tech review about a piece of technology that you’re excited about. After researching, you’ll write a blog post, record a podcast, or film a vlog reviewing the technology.
2Lesson 2: Artificial Intelligence (AI)
Learn the basics of machine learning and artificial intelligence while understanding the potential outcomes of the technology. 		Project 2: Build Your Own Machine Learning Models
Build a machine learning model by designing concepts around your own images, sounds, and poses. Test out multiple prototypes and reflect on the experience.
3Lesson 3: 3D Printing
Learn about what 3D printing is and how it could change our manufacturing and consumption processes to enable the “4th industrial revolution”.		Project 3: Create a 3D Model
Design and create a 3D model using a 3D modeling program. Brainstorm concepts and design your own model with the option to print using a 3D printer. Wrap up the project by reflecting on your experience.
4Lesson 4: Automation
Learn the basic concepts of the Internet of Things (IoT), where the technology currently sits, and the implications of the technology in the future.		Project 4: Build an IoT Automation
Build an automation that connects multiple apps together. Research available apps and put together a workflow that connects everything together. End the project by reflecting on your experience.
5Lesson 5: VR/AR
Learn about virtual reality’s current uses and where it’s going in the future.		Project 5: Demo VR/AR
Get the full VR experience by first demoing with a VR headset and then by creating an AR lens. Once complete, you’ll reflect on your experience.
6Lesson 6: Blockchain
Learn about the basics of blockchain technology and its impact on society with use cases such as cryptocurrency, smart contracts, and non-fungible tokens (NFTs). 		Project 6: Create an NFT
Build your personal digital cryptocurrency wallet and connect it to a marketplace. Create your own NFT and finish by reflecting on your experience.
7Lesson 7: Portfolio & Wrap-Up
Learn tips and tricks for creating an effective and professional portfolio and how to present it, build a network, and market yourself to potential employers.		Project 7: Portfolio Design
