Welcome
This website has been created as an introductary unit for use by jazz students and educators. The project was initiated through faculty and students of Boise State University's Department of Music and the Gene Harris Jazz Festival to aid in Jazz Education. The website focuses on orientating students to the cultural, political, and social events that occurred in each era associated with jazz and also to several artists, who's lives and music influenced the direction of jazz as it evolved.
We have selected a number of musicians from several styles and periods to give students a starting point for listening and exploring jazz. This list is representational of these styles but not conclusive. We encourage teachers and students to expand their listening beyond this list as you see fit. We have tried to consolidate a variety of video's available online for each artist. These links may not always remain active, so please be sure to check before using them in an educational setting.
Have fun as you explore and enjoy the resources of this site. Thank You!
