Novell FTP

Details

Novell FTP (File Transfer Protocol) has been implemented at the University to allow remote access to files and folders located in Novell home directories (often referred to as the "H:" drive or "home" drive). This service provides the ability to download and upload files to your home directory from off-campus.

The Novell FTP service is completely different from the secure FTP system used for campus web editing and publishing.

In order to take advantage of this service you will also need to run Cisco VPN software on your computer.

Using the Novell FTP Service

The Novell FTP service also allows for the remote transfer of files exceeding the University's GroupWise file attachment size limit (25 megabytes). A network administrator can create a "generic" account allowing for individuals outside the University to send and retrieve files.

The amount of space available to Novell account holders via the FTP service is contingent upon the available space in an individual's home directory. OIT commonly creates Novell home directory accounts with a space quota of 200 megabytes; accounts created by other network administrators on campus have varying amounts of available space. If an individual has a 200 megabyte space quota, and 150 megabytes of files are already present in the home directory, then only 50 megabytes of file space will be available for use via Novell FTP.

Please note college and area network administrators are responsible for Novell FTP service support and access.

How to Configure Novell FTP Access

Novell FTP access requires a specific type of FTP client software that supports OpenSSL-encrypted FTP connections. OIT supports CoreFTP LE for the PC platform and Cyberduck for the Mac OS X platform for Novell FTP access.

Both of these programs are free for University account holders.
