Network Services at Boise State University
Getting Started
DNS Changes
On July 27th, OIT will upgrade the Boise State DNS & DHCP servers. The production DNS servers Tanana.boisestate.edu (132.178.236.52) and Nenana.boisestate.edu (132.178.238.52) will be replaced by TNS1.boisestate.edu (132.178.4.39) and TNS2.boisestate.edu (132.178.4.41). The DNS server records used by other hosts on the Internet will be pointed to the new DNS servers on August 3rd. The transition period will take approximately three weeks.

File Backup and Restore Services
Requests for restoration of network data should be submitted through the OIT Help Desk.
The OIT Help Desk or your college or area network administrator may be able to restore your data over the phone rather than have to escalate a request through OIT server administrators.
No restoration is available for Google Apps data.
Please direct inquiries regarding network backup services to the OIT Help Desk.

BroncoPrint
BroncoPrint is a service offered by OIT Computer Labs. Each University student registered for academic credit is given a $15.00 printing quota in OIT labs (approximately 300 pages) for each semester. (Of course, if you utilize duplex printing, you can print more than 300 pages.)

Office Printing Services
The OIT Help Desk supports installation, configuration and operation of networked printers and multifunction devices.
The Help Desk can expedite installations, configurations and moves of networked printers or multi-function devices by being informed in advance of any new printer installs or moves.
OIT currently uses MS Windows networked printing systems.

Policies and Standards
- Information Technologies Policies and Standards are available online via the University Policy Manual.
- OIT Desktop and Computing Standards are available on the Help Desk's website.
Remote Access
Remote access to University networked resources is provided through VPN (Virtual Private Networking) services, as well as Novell FTP service for accessing your Novell home directory (e.g., "H:" drive).
VPN access can be obtained by emailing the OIT Help Desk at helpdesk@boisestate.edu.
VPN software is available by checking out a Resource CD through the OIT Help Desk at our location in Capitol Village at 2710 W. Boise Ave, or by contacting your college or area network administrator.

Website Hosting and Publishing
Access to University web servers is available to faculty, staff and affiliate employees.
Website hosting and publishing is supported for sites on OIT web servers.
To obtain a website, or make editing rights or site permission changes, please submit a request via Help Desk Self Service.
Sites are currently divided into two categories:
- FrontPage Websites - requires Microsoft Front Page or ExpressionWeb to upload content.
- Non-FrontPage Websites - requires an SFTP client (e.g., Dreamweaver, FileZilla, Fugu) to upload content.
The University is transitioning away from FrontPage websites; all approved new site requests will be created as non-FrontPage websites.
You can still use FrontPage or ExpressionWeb to create and edit web content; you'll just have to use an SFTP client to publish that content to a server, as Microsoft didn't include an SFTP client in the software.

Wireless Network Services
Computers connecting to the University network in residence halls and via the campus wireless network are required to use a security and privacy authentication process called Clean Access.
To request to have a wireless computing device bypass the Clean Access authentication process, please fill out and submit a Network Reservation Request for "Clean Access Exceptions" via Help Desk Self Service.
If you are using a Windows operating system, you must install Clean Access Agent software on your computer. Macintosh and Linux systems are not required to install the Clean Access Agent software at this time.
