Getting Started
The OIT Help Desk takes the subject of computer security very seriously, and offers several services and applications designed to protect University computers from a myriad of virus, spyware, and data theft threats.
AntiVirus Software
All University computers are required to have antivirus software installed and current when attaching to the University network, per University IT policy.
Boise State University has a site license for Symantec AntiVirus for both Microsoft Windows and Apple Macintosh computer. This license allows for installations on all University-owned devices, as well as employee's personal computers.
Please note you will need to uninstall any antivirus software you have on a personal computer before installing Symantec AntiVirus.

University Employees
University employees can obtain free copies of Symantec AntiVirus software through the OIT Help Desk, located at 2710 W. Boise Ave. in Capitol Village.
Students
Students can purchase antivirus software at an academic discount through the University Bookstore, or they can download and install our recommendations for free antivirus software over the Internet.
Note that current antivirus software is required on Microsoft Windows computers before connecting to the University's wireless network; if you don't have antivirus software or your software is outdated, you won't be able to sign on.
Keeping Your Computer Secure
The OIT Help Desk, in conjunction with the OIT Information Security Office, is committed to providing you with education and tools to keep your professional and personal data safe.
OIT Information Security Office
Our University Information Security Office is responsible for protecting the University's information assets. The OIT Information Security Office conducts workshops on information security awareness, recommends IT security policy, and investigates IT policy violations and security incidents.
