Timeline

May 19, 2008

All student email messages addressed to old username@mail.boisestate.edu addresses were automatically directed to new username@u.boisestate.edu BroncoMail powered by Google addresses.

This means all students must log in to http://broncomail.u.boisestate.edu to send or receive email.

Students can continue to login to the old BroncoMail system at https://mail.boisestate.edu/ through the summer months for purposes of viewing mail in that account.

However, students will no longer be able to send or receive email from their old BroncoMail system accounts.

September 9, 2008

Old BroncoMail system will be turned off.

Students will no longer have access to any information in old BroncoMail system account, nor will they be able to log in to the old BroncoMail system.

October 27, 2008

Domain for old BroncoMail system will turned off.

Any email addressed to username@mail.boisestate.edu will no longer be delivered and will bounce back to the sender as undeliverable. All email to student email addresses must be addressed to username@u.boisestate.edu

Keys to a Smooth Transition

Here are some key changes and features of the BroncoMail powered by Google email system to help ease your transition:

Your Email Address Will Change

Your username stays the same, but the remainder of the address will become u.boisestate.edu (e.g., johnsmith@mail.boisestate.edu will become johnsmith@u.boisestate.edu).

Your mail.boisestate.edu address will continue to work for a few more months, but you'll want to start planning now for all that is involved in changing email addresses, such as:

Your Password Will Not Change

You'll continue to use your BroncoWeb password to access BroncoMail powered by Google. If you change your BroncoWeb password (as required every 90 days), your BroncoMail powered by Google password will automatically be changed as well.

Your Storage Space Will Increase

With your old BroncoMail account, you were limited to a handful of megabytes of disk space. With your new BroncoMail powered by Google account, you'll start off with over 6 gigabytes of disk space for your account, with your allocated disk space growing daily.

Your BroncoMail Address Books and Contacts Will Need to be Recreated

Unfortunately, there isn't an easy method to export your current saved addresses from your old BroncoMail account to BroncoMail powered by Google, other than copying from your old account and pasting into your new BroncoMail powered by Google account. The good news is that people you e-mail frequently will automatically get added to your Google Quick Contacts.

Of course, the OIT Help Desk is available for any questions you may have about Google Apps, as well as the transition from "old" BroncoMail to BroncoMail powered by Google. We're open 8:00 am - 5:00 pm Monday - Friday, and you can reach us at 426-4357, or via e-mail at helpdesk@boisestate.edu
