Bachelor of General Studies Program

Required Courses

All Bachelor of General Studies students are required to complete two basic courses in addition to other course work. An additional course is offered to expand the capstone course experience.

Required Courses

Introduction to Bachelor of General Studies
(GS200)

The course is an introduction and analysis of learning and adult development theories, utilizing reflection and application of current life skills and intellectual competencies. Students are required to apply theories and readings to assess critical thinking skills and communication proficiencies.

Capstone Course
(GS400)

In this course, students will demonstrate critical thinking skills, communication strategies and content expertise to analyze a problem or issue related to life and professional goals. The course will provide evidence that the student has achieved the goals of his or her degree plan.

Optional Course

SERVICE LEARNING LAB
(GS400SL - 1 credit)

The goal of this course - when combined with GS 400 - is to expand the capstone experience in the Bachelor of General Studies degree. Through both individual and group work in GS 400, students focus on a relevant project integrating exposure with a Service-Learning Community Organization as it relates to their area of interest. GS 400 SL expands on this component of the capstone experience through additional volunteer activities at a selected agency chosen for GS 400. Students are expected to integrate this additional learning into their capstone research paper and reflections.
