Program FAQs
What is the minimum GPA required to graduate with a Bachelor of General Studies degree? An overall GPA of 2.0 must be achieved in order to graduate from the Bachelor of General Studies degree. How many credits are required for this degree? A total of 128 credits are required for the Bachelor General Studies. At least 40 need to be upper division credits including GS 400. Twenty-two of these must be completed after admission to the Bachelor of General Studies program.
Can I be accepted if I have less than 60 credits? Sixty credits is the minimum number of credits you need in order to be accepted into the Bachelor General Studies degree. We would be happy to work with you to apply and be accepted at Boise State University where you can take courses to get you to the 60 credit minimum. Or, you may consider taking some CLEP exams to obtain additional credit. See your advisor for more information. What if I only have 4 years of life experience? The program required 5 years of experience which can include time as a full-time paid employee or volunteer, family care provider or other non-academic life experience. Will I be able to take all classes I need in the evening or on the weekends? Currently we have eight majors that offer their program completely in the evening or on weekends. They include Accountancy, General Business, Communication, Criminal Justice, Health Sciences Studies, and Information Technology Management. You can work your study plan for the BGS degree around weekend and evening classes. Many other departments offer courses in the evenings. |
Will I be required to take pre-requisites before I can take certain courses? Yes, if there are pre-requisites to a particular course you plan to take you will need to satisfy the pre-requisite requirement. Do I still have to take all of the CORE requirements? If you have already completed an AA or an AS degree, you will not need to complete the CORE requirements. An AAS degree does not satisfy the CORE requirements. Will I be required to take a CORE math course? Yes, a CORE math course is required for the General Studies degree. You may take the Compass test to determine what level of math you can take. What grade do I have to get in the CORE courses? A "C-" or better must be achieved in all CORE courses. Is there a minimum grade requirement to courses I transfer from another college? Yes, all transfer credits must be a "C" or better in order to count towards the 60 credits. Lower division courses do transfer into Boise State.
Will I be able to get credit for a similar course I may have taken at another college? BSU accepts all college level classes from regionally accredited institutions. If BSU has an equivalent class, you will get credit as if you had taken that class at BSU. If Boise State does not have an equivalent class, you will get general elective credit. You can find a list of approved transfer classes from other common colleges in the area on the BSU Registrar's home page. An academic adjustment proposal can be completed for courses you may have taken at other colleges not on this list. See the BSU undergraduate catalog for more information on academic adjustments. |
